Matthew McClenaghan has been promoted to president at Vancouver-based EDGAR Development.

McClenaghan has been with EDGAR for five years after having held senior leadership positions at several real estate marketing and development companies in Vancouver during his 25-plus years in the industry. 

He has a strong background in developing and delivering both rental and condo housing. From the sales floor to construction, sales and marketing, McClenaghan has extensive experience in the Lower Mainland real estate industry. 

The son of a realtor and a commercial fisherman, McClenaghan got his real estate license at the age of 19.

The promotion will allow Peter Edgar to focus on his role as CEO, including charting the company’s strategic direction, strengthening relationships with preferred partners and lenders, and continuing to help oversee acquisitions and dispositions. 

Giraud departs, Amine becomes Inovalis CEO

Toronto-based Inovalis Real Estate Investment Trust (INO-UN-T) has appointed Stéphane Amine president and chief executive officer.

Amine is the founder of Inovalis SA, the manager of the REIT, and replaces David Giraud, who has stepped down as CEO for personal reasons.

“We welcome Stéphane to this new role," said Jean-Daniel Cohen, chair of the Inovalis board, in the announcement.

"His deep knowledge of Inovalis and Inovalis REIT coupled with his experience in European real estate investment and syndication of funds provides steady and strong leadership for the REIT.”

Haggart heads Mattamy's GTA Urban Division

Mattamy Homes has named Niall Haggart president of its Greater Toronto Area Urban Division. 

Haggart reports to Brad Carr, CEO of Mattamy Homes Canada, and will be responsible for all aspects of development and homebuilding for GTA Urban.

Haggart has more than 30 years of urban real estate development experience, having spent most of his career with The Daniels Corporation.

He was a member of the Daniels executive management team for 25 years, most recently as executive vice-president and partner with responsibility for business strategy, land acquisition and development, community planning, corporate and project financings, and joint venture relationships.

Over the years with Daniels, Haggart led the development of many award-winning GTA projects including TIFF Bell Lightbox, the Mississauga City Centre and Daniels City of the Arts.

He is an active member of the development industry, including as a speaker, consultant and lecturer and is a member of BILD's principals committee, helping to create city-building policies and frameworks for responsible and inclusive development throughout the GTA.

Hindo to retire from Ontario Teachers'

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan board has announced the pending retirement of chief investment officer Ziad Hindo as of Dec. 31.

Hindo joined Ontario Teachers' in 2000 and has held progressively more senior roles spanning multiple asset classes and, ultimately, leadership of the investments division since June 2018.

"I would like to thank Ziad for his many contributions in his 23 years at Ontario Teachers'," said Jo Taylor, chief executive officer, in the announcement.

"Through his leadership, Ziad has built an outstanding Investments team, diversified the portfolio by sector and geography and led the development of the investment strategy that has delivered strong returns for members for over two decades.”

Stephen McLennan, currently executive managing director, total fund management, has been appointed the acting head of investments. 

McLennan joined Ontario Teachers' in 2003 and has since held positions of increasing responsibility in both capital market and private asset-related groups. Most recently he led the total fund management department.

Jhooty takes senior managing director role at CPP Investments

Manroop Jhooty has been named senior managing director and head of total fund management at CPP Investments.

Jhooty will be responsible for the total fund management department where he will lead the balancing and financing portfolio, which is invested in global public securities, as well as balance sheet management, tactical positioning, trading and portfolio design.

Jhooty joined CPP Investments in 2019 and has since risen to managing director, head of exposure, leverage and liquidity management. 

Prior to joining CPP Investments, he held various fixed income and credit trading roles with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

He holds a BCom from McMaster University and an MSc from the London School of Economics.

New senior executives at CDPQ

CDPQ Infra has announced a series of executive appointments, promoting: Daniel Farina to managing director; Sophie Lussier to executive vice-president and head of corporate services, organizational performance and secretariat; and Philippe Batani to executive vice-president, public affairs, communications and strategy.

In his new and expanded role, Farina will work closely with president and CEO Jean-Marc Arbaud to provide global leadership of the subsidiary's activities, including delivering and operating the REM branches, as well as the high-frequency rail project connecting Québec City and Toronto.

The 25-year industry veteran was previously vice-president of operations.

In her new role, Lussier will oversee operations, with responsibility for the finance, risk management, legal affairs and talent and culture teams.

A seasoned manager with a long track record at CDPQ who has served on the board of directors since 2021, she possesses a detailed understanding of the organization.

Lussier joined CDPQ in 2001 and has risen steadily, most recently holding the vice-president and head of legal affairs title for the past three years.

Batani will be responsible for media relations, external and internal communications and relations with stakeholders.

He will also oversee the subsidiary's growth strategy, leveraging his knowledge of the industry, unifying leadership and expertise in community relations.

Batani joined CDPQ six years ago and was most recently its VP, communications and public affairs.

AY names new Ontario property tax team

Avison Young recently unveiled a new property tax team in Ontario, comprising four industry veterans: Principals Karen Marangone and Erin Johnston, Chantelle MacMillan and Raymond Williams.

Based in Toronto and Ottawa, the team will be responsible for expanding Avison Young’s property tax practice in Ontario and amplifying services across Canada. 

With three decades of experience in the property tax and assessment field, one of Marangone's specialties is an ability to manage national portfolios.

Johnston brings more than two decades of experience in property assessment and taxation across both private and public sectors.

Williams has over a decade of experience in the property tax and assessment field, while MacMillan has a background in property tax advocacy, litigation and paralegal services, and has experience working in the private and public sectors. 

Doktorczyk, Groleau lead new Engel & Völkers office

Engel & Völkers has opened a new shop in Toronto’s downtown east, led by license partners Debby Doktorczyk and Patrice Groleau along with broker of record, Adrienne Lake.

Doktorczyk and Groleau currently own and operate locations across Quebec including Montréal and Quebec City.

These shops are among the top-performing brokerages throughout the global Engel & Völkers network, currently surpassing the combined sales of the top five luxury agencies in the province.

Lake is a real estate professional with more than 37 years of experience.

She has served on several real estate committees including the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board and the Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board, and is a past-president of the Mississauga Real Estate Board.
